Sun 20 Sep 2009  Cup
Ryarsh Rangers 8
Deopham Football Club 0

The Fish travelled to Ryarsh this week to take on Division Two side Ryarsh Rangers in the first round of the Challenge Cup.

The game kicked off in glorious sunshine and it did not take the home side long to warm to their task, going close on a couple of occasions. Rangers were passing the ball well and inevitably broke the deadlock when their left winger burst clear and scored with a low shot through the 'keepers legs.

The Fish began to exert some pressure of their own forcing Rangers into some hurried clearances and fouls, but could not capitalise from the resultant set-pieces. Rangers added a second goal with a cool finish from 10 yards out and cruelly added a third with the last kick of the first half.

With the luxury of five substitutes to choose from this week Manager Bob Baker made two changes at half-time hoping some fresh legs would break up the home sides passing game. But it was as you were, with Rangers moving the ball well, pulling the Fish players out of position and creating chance after chance.

Despite stand-in 'keeper Bob Baker pulling off a string of fine saves (mixed in with some comedy errors!) - earning praise from team-mates, opponents and spectators alike - Rangers added five more goals in the second period meaning this very one-sided match finished 8-0 and consigned the Fish to the Consolation Cup for yet another year!
